I’ve decided to start an occasional series of wedding tips for grooms. No-one really thinks about the groom. When I was getting ready for my wedding, I was always hearing things like ‘it’s the bride’s big day’, ‘everyone’s going to be looking at the bride’, and ‘bride bride bride’. You don’t see loads of groom’s magazines. I’ve never heard of a groom-al wear shop. Frankly, we’re a bit of an accessory.
Well, I’m taking the power back. Grooms have feelings too.I know you’re feeling neglected, and I’m here for you. Let’s hug it out, maybe have a wrestle. Take some deep breaths. Feeling better? Good.
My first tip is personal training. I trained every weekday morning for the entire month before my wedding. Boxing drills, weights, cardio. I was sore. I was knackered. And it did cost a few quid. But the benefits were enormous:
1. I looked my best in the wedding photos. Think about it; you’ll be looking at yours for years to come. You want to look sharp.
2. I looked my best on the big day. And when you feel good, and when people come up and compliment you on how fit you look, the confidence boost is fantastic.
3. My wife knew that I was really excited about the wedding. That made her just a little bit happier and less stressed. And who wouldn’t want to do that for their fiancee?
