Today I had some praise from one of my brides (is it just me or does that make me sound like some kind of cult leader?). Actually she was talking about me to someone else, and she mentioned that one of her fears had been that a professional wedding photographer would come in and order all her guests around…but that I’d been very unobtrusive and captured their moments without getting in the way.
It was so lovely to hear that, because it’s exactly the effect I’m going for…enhancing the memories of the day without making it about me. Frankly, if all the weddings I shot were about me, life would become pretty dull. One of the things I enjoy about this job is witnessing the distinctiveness that each couple brings to their own celebration, and the challenge is to reflect that distinctiveness within my own style. It’s an honour, it’s creatively exciting, and it’s the best job in the world.
