One of my non-wedding photography jobs is shooting fight nights for City Warriors, a white collar boxing organisation run by a mate of mine, Gary Stasek.
The latest was on Thursday evening, at the Emirates Stadium. It’s a great venue, the atmosphere was charged up, and the fights were excellent.
I shoot from just outside the ropes, and several times I came very close to getting clocked by a stray hook. It’s a long way to fall from the side of the ring! The big excitement about this particular event was that Nigel Benn attended to auction one of his belts for charity, and to judge who was the best fighter on the night.
My new Canon 1D MkIII camera was fantastic, and it kept up with a few particularly frenzied exchanges…so if any of my future brides or grooms get a bit handy, I’ll definitely be able to capture the exact moment of impact!
